Cari Penner grew up in Steinbach and traces her roots to the founding settlers of this community. She asserts this is the “driving force” behind her desire to serve her community and ensure Steinbach continues to be recognized as a community of city amenities with a small-town feel.
During two previous terms, Councillor Penner pushed forward several large community projects, including the re-development and beautification of Main Street, the construction of the Jake Epp Library, and the addition of the T.G. Smith Arena. Currently she helps direct the tremendous growth and resulting challenges that have occurred in the City.
Her ultimate passion is to make Steinbach a great place to live, work and play.
In response to concerns about crime and policing, she was appointed Vice-Chair of the Mayor’s Task Force on Public Safety. As part of the Task Force, she forwarded important recommendations to ensure the city maintains its reputation as a safe, clean and vibrant community. Council endorsed those key recommendations, resulting in positive steps to a safer community.
As chair of the RCMP Advisory Group, her current involvement with issues in crime, policing and public safety have led to better communication and understanding between the local RCMP and the public.
An avid reader, Cari enjoys leisure time at the cottage. She and her husband Darrel also enjoy travelling. A lifelong volunteer, Cari has given her energies to many organizations and committees.
Through her contribution on Council, Cari hopes to meet the challenge of a growing community that is prepared for the future.
Councillor Cari Penner is currently serving her third term at Steinbach City Hall. She was the first woman elected to Steinbach council in 1992.
