General municipal elections are held every four years on the fourth Wednesday in October. This includes elections for mayors / reeves and councillors.

Notice of Plebiscite on the Local Retail Sale of Cannabis

Notice is hereby given that a vote of the City of Steinbach will be taken to determine whether the retail sale of cannabis will be permitted within the municipality. 

Voters will be asked the following question:

Should licensed retail cannabis stores be allowed in the City of Steinbach.

  • Yes, they should be allowed.
  • No, they should not be allowed.

Voting opportunities will occur at the same time as the 2018 general municipal election.

 

Notice of Voters List & Personal Security Protection

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a copy of the VOTERS LIST may be revised at Steinbach City Hall, during regular office hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)

At this time the Senior Election Official (SEO) will be available to update the voters list by:

   (a) adding the names of voters who are entitled to have their names on the list;
   (b) deleting the names of persons who are not entitled to have their names on the list; and
   (c) making such other correction of errors to the list as required.

VOTER ELIGIBILITY:

A person is eligible to have his or her name added to the Voters List if he or she is:

  1. a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years of age on election day; and
  2. a resident of the City of Steinbach for at least six months prior to election day (April 24th), OR a registered owner of land in the City of Steinbach for at least six months prior to election day (April 24th).
     

Application for Personal Security Protection:

A voter may apply in writing to the SEO (at the address/fax number below) no later than September 18th, 2018 to have his/her name and other personal information omitted or obscured from the voters list in order to protect the voter’s personal security.  The application may be submitted in person, by mail or fax and must include your name, address and include proof of identity. 

All changes to the voters list must be completed on or before September 18th, 2018.

Voting Place

Wednesday, October 24, 2018 - Pat Porter Active Living Centre

The voting place will be open for voting on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Pat Porter Active Living Centre, 10 Chrysler Gate, Steinbach.
 
Identification may be required before being allowed to vote.  A person may be required to provide an official government issued document that contains the person’s name, address and photograph; or at least two other documents that provide proof of identity satisfactory to the election official.


Advance Voting

Advance voting is now CLOSED.

Thursday, October 18, 2018 - Hanover School Division Offices

For the purpose of accommodating persons who are qualified to vote, but who have reason to believe that they will be absent or otherwise unable to attend their proper voting place on election day, an advance voting opportunity will be located at Hanover School Division Offices (Conference Centre entrance), 5 Chrysler Gate, Steinbach and will be open on Thursday, October 18, 2018, between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.


Mobile Voting

Wednesday, October 24, 2018

Bethesda Regional Health Centre (Bethesda Place, Bethesda Hospital and Rehab.),
Resthaven Nursing Home and Cedarwood and Parkview Apts

For the purpose of accommodating persons who are qualified to vote, a mobile voting station will be set up for those who reside at the following facilities on Election Day:

  • Bethesda Place 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
  • Bethesda Hospital and Rehab 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 Noon
  • Rest Haven Nursing Home 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Cedarwood & Parkview Apts (at Cedarwood) 1:00 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.


Advance Mobile Voting

Advance Mobile Voting is now CLOSED.

Woodhaven Manor, Fernwood Place,
Bridgepark Manor Phase One & Two and Linden Place
Thursday, October 18, 2018

For the purpose of accommodating persons who are qualified to vote and are residents of Woodhaven Manor, Fernwood Place, Bridgepark Manor and Linden Place a Moving Advance Voting Place will be established on Thursday, October 18, 2018, as follows:

  • Woodhaven Manor - 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
  • Fernwood Place - 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Bridgepark Manor Phase One & Two 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Linden Place - 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.


APPLICATION TO VOTE BY SEALED ENVELOPE

A voter who is unable to go in person to the voting place or vote in advance, may apply to vote by sealed envelope, to the Senior Election Official, at 225 Reimer Avenue, Steinbach , MB, R5G 2J1, Fax: 204-346-6235, email: drempel@steinbach.ca.  A voter may apply between September 26th and October 21st.  A voter applying in person may pick up a sealed envelope ballot package at the time of application.  If applying by mail or fax, a voter may apply between July 26, 2018 and October 21, 2018.  A voter applying by mail or fax will receive a sealed envelope ballot package by regular post, or by making alternative arrangements with the senior election official.


Voter Registration

Voter registration is now closed. On October 24, 2018, people not currently on the voters list, who wish to vote can go to the Pat Porter Active Living Centre, between 8am - 8pm. Identification may be required and an oath may need to be taken before being permitted to vote. A person may be required to produce one piece of government issued photo identification (e.g. driver's license or passport) or at least two other documents that provide proof of identity.
