Bio 
Cari Penner was born in Steinbach. She married Darrel Penner in 1982 and together they have two sons, Cameron and Ryley. 

Her early work experience with Zoning By-law and Development Plan preparation provided the background for her interest in City Planning. As such, she was appointed to the Town of Steinbach Planning Commission, the first woman appointed to such a position. In 1992, she ran for political office for the City of Steinbach and was elected as councilor, a position she held for two terms, serving as deputy mayor for part of that term. The first woman elected to municipal office in Steinbach, she served in many capacities for six years. 

Her interest in city planning and development led to her appointment to the Steinbach Community Development Corporation, a citizen’s group formed to assist local government in the development of Industrial land in Steinbach. As chair of the Corporation, Ms. Penner served her community in promoting and developing the City for future expansion. During her term, she also advocated for increased crime prevention planning, a key part of her campaign platform. 

Ms. Penner enjoys her leisure time at the family cottage when she can, and is an avid reader. She and her husband Darrel enjoy travelling and time spent with friends and family.
