    Mission 

    The mission of the Steinbach Community Health Committee is to improve health care services provided within the City of Steinbach. 

    Mandate 

    The Steinbach Community Health Committee is mandated to do the following: 

    1) Explore ways to increase the number of physicians who choose to practice within the City of Steinbach and retain the current doctors. 

    2) Advocate for the official recognition of Bethesda Hospital as the regional hospital for southeastern Manitoba. 

    3) Lobby for the expansion of Bethesda Hospital and the upgrading of its facilities or/and the creation of new facilities that would augment the services provided to the Steinbach region. 

    4) Support the South Eastman RHA in its efforts to lobby the provincial government for additional health care funding for southeastern Manitoba. 

    Committee Members 

    All Committee member terms are one year or two years in length and begin and end on September 1st of each year. Board members are appointed by Steinbach City Council. There is no limit to the number of terms a member may serve. 

    There are a maximum of nine (9) members on the Steinbach Community Health Committee.  Representation must come from the following areas: 

    Practising physicians within the City of Steinbach - 2
    Steinbach Chamber of Commerce - 1
    South Eastman Regional Health Authority - 1
    Bethesda Foundation - 1
    Haven Group - 1
    Steinbach City Council - 1
    R.M. of Hanover resident - 1
    Members at large - 1 

    Committee Executive 

    The Committee is responsible for selecting its own executive on an annual basis at its September meeting. The members of the executive are: chair, vice-chair, and secretary/treasurer. The Mayor of Steinbach or delegated council representative shall preside over the annual election of the executive. 

    The chair is responsible for presiding over Committee meetings and acting as the official spokesperson for the Steinbach Community Health Committee with the media and outside agencies. 

    The vice-chair assumes all responsibilities of the chair in the absence of the chair. 

    The secretary/treasurer is responsible for taking meeting minutes and managing the finances of Steinbach Community Health Committee. 

    Meetings 

    Meetings are held at the call of the chair and shall occur not less than eight (8) times in each calendar year. 

    In order for quorum to be met, a minimum of 65% of Committee members must be present.  Members participating via teleconference are deemed to be present. 

    Committee members serve on a volunteer basis. They are eligible to be reimbursed for all expenses directly related to board business. 

    Funding 

    The City of Steinbach will provide an initial grant of $5,000.00 to the Steinbach Community Health Committee for the purpose of covering operational expenses.


    Mayor's Task Force on Communication (2007)

    Mission

    The Steinbach Task Force on Communication will deliver a brief, high level report on the state of communications between the City of Steinbach and its citizens and businesses; will provide a useful evaluation of current communication channels; will identify missing channels; and will offer a set of recommendations - both broad and narrow - for the Mayor, the council, and the people of Steinbach.

    The intention is to provide a framework for continuous improvement of City communications, both inbound and outbound, for all stakeholders - with ratepayers being of prime importance.

    Mandate

    The Mayor's Task Force on Communication is an advisory body comprised of two City councillors and two members of the community at large.  The Task Force will analyze what the City of Steinbach has been doing in the past as it pertains to communication with its citizens as well as external targets.  The Task Force will then hold consultations with City staff as well as other knowledgeable people in the community to come up with recommendations for the Mayor and Council to consider for implementation.  This internal and external advisory committee will report back to the Mayor on or before May 1, 2007.  Its mandate is to make recommendations on the following subjects but not limited to them:

    • City communication with its residents as it pertains to the daily affairs of the city.
    • City communication to external organizations including other municipalities in our region.
    • The promotion of the city to external targets in Manitoba and Canada.

    Task Force Members

    The members, once appointed, will approve of the Terms of Reference for this Task Force.
