Opportunities to Serve Your City
If you are looking for a way to get more involved in the community and City issues, a position with City Council or the Jake Epp Library Board may be your perfect opportunity.
City Council
Six council members and the Mayor are all elected at large for four-year terms. Council, including the Mayor, is responsible for developing and evaluating the policies and programs of the City and to ensure that the powers, duties, and functions given to them are appropriately carried out. The Mayor also has a duty to provide leadership and direction to the council and to act as its head during deliberations. Council elections are held every four years.
Jake Epp Library
The Jake Epp Library is a facility that caters to the literary needs of southeastern Manitoba. Public library boards are governing boards, legal corporations with the authority to make policy and to govern the library’s public affairs under the Public Libraries Act, 1997, Part II (21); Part III (27). As a member of the Jake Epp Library Board, your fiduciary duty is to act honestly and in good faith and in the best interests of the library. This means that the interests of the library take precedence over your personal interests or those of any other group with which you are associated. With circulation numbers growing steadily, this board provides challenges and rewards to those wishing to better our community. The board is composed of seven members appointed by Steinbach City Council, including one member of Council. Terms for appointees run for a period of two years.
