Steinbach is a relatively compact urban center which contributes significantly in providing an efficiently run infrastructure network. Most developed areas are provided with water through the City's public water utility. All areas connected to the public water system are also serviced with fire hydrants, which provide an added level of property protection. Some residential areas on the City's periphery are serviced with water by either a private or shared well and as a result, hydrant protection is not available.
In addition, the City also provides for a public sewage and treatment system through its public

sewer utility. Most areas are serviced with gravity sewer connections with a small proportion of residential areas being connected to a low-pressure sewage system. In our ongoing efforts to improve our standard level of service to the community, all new and future development areas will require a connection to the City's gravity sewage system.
Most roadways and streets within Steinbach are under the maintenance authority of the City. All roadways are reviewed on a regular basis to assess their condition and to ensure that these critical assets provide for safe and efficient transportation for residents and businesses. In addition, there are two major provincial highways that intersect within our community. These transportation corridors provide a vital link for travel to and from our City.
