What is a Zoning By-law?

The Zoning By-law contains provisions that regulate the use, size, height, density and location of buildings and parking provisions on properties within the City.

The basic purpose of a Zoning By- law is to regulate what can be built and how big the building can be on a property.

The Zoning By-law also includes maps that clearly identify zoning districts to facilitate land use management and protect the community from conflicting land uses.

Zoning By-laws help planners, developers, real estate agents and members of the public make informed decisions about where and what to build in Steinbach.

It regulates the community's vision and provides guidelines that direct future development within the City.

Why are we reviewing it?

The City of Steinbach's Development Plan has recently been reviewed and is currently being finalized. The Development Plan provides the vision and guidance for the Zoning By-law.

Updating the Zoning By-law ensures that the regulatory tools are consistent with the Development Plan's goals and objectives.
