Traffic Lights & Signs
The City of Steinbach has a number of procedures and policies in place to ensure proper signage is provided to drivers and pedestrians for safety reasons. 

Public Parking Areas

METERED public parking is available in the downtown area off Reimer Avenue in a lot adjacent to City Hall.  Rates are in effect from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.  A two-hour maximum applies.

UN-METERED public parking is available in the downtown area off Reimer Avenue at Elmdale Street and off Reimer Avenue at First Street.  A two-hour maximum applies for casual parking and monthly parking passes are available.

Speed Zones

All speed zones are reviewed by City Council.  Speed zones are established in accordance with Federal and Provincial standards.  The maximum urban speed limit is 50 km/h on City streets and 30 km/h on access lanes unless otherwise posted. 

Persons requesting a review of a speed zone must do so in writing to City Council at 225 Reimer Avenue, Steinbach, MB  R5G 2J1.  Your request should include the exact location (by sketch if appropriate) and the reasons for the request. Upon review of the request by City Council, the matter may or may not be further referred to the Highway Traffic Board of Manitoba for final approval.

Street Lights

Manitoba Hydro maintains overhead street lights in the City of Steinbach.  The ornamental street lights found on Main Street and Elmdale Street are maintained by the City of Steinbach. 

Reporting Outages
When reporting an outage, be prepared to provide the street address and the nature of the street light problem (not working, blinking, etc).

IMPORTANT:  For overhead street light outages, please contact Manitoba Hydro immediately.  Call 1-888-MBHYDRO (1-888-624-9376) during regular business hours or use the Report a Street Light Problem link at www.hydro.mb.ca.

Request for Street Light
City Council authorizes the installation of overhead street lights within the City of Steinbach.

Persons requesting the installation of a street light must do so in writing to City Council.  Your request should include the exact location by street address and the reasons for the request. You will be advised of a decision as soon as it becomes available.

Traffic Signal Problem
Manitoba’s Department of Transportation and Government Services maintain traffic signals in Steinbach. 

Persons reporting a malfunction are requested to provide the location and the nature of the problem. The more information you can provide, the easier it will be for the problem to be corrected. 

To report a problem, contact either the Manitoba Department of Transportation and Government Services office at (204) 346-6266, Randy Reimer at (204) 346-6215, or Customer Service at (204) 346-6211 or by e-mail at transportation@steinbach.ca.

For after-hour emergencies, contact the Steinbach RCMP detachment dispatcher at (204) 326-1234.  


Traffic Signs

Manitoba Department of Transportation and Government Services maintain all traffic signs that are installed in the public right-of-way along PTH 12 and PTH 52 and are within City limits.  All traffic signs installed in the public right-of-way of all other streets are maintained by the City of Steinbach.  Traffic signs may include stop signs, yield signs, speed zone signs, directional signs, etc. 

Damaged and Missing Traffic Signs
To report a damaged or missing traffic sign, contact the Public Works Department during regular business hours. Please be prepared to provide the street address or location and the type of sign requiring attention.

Request for Traffic Sign Installation
Requests for the installation of a traffic sign must be done in writing to City Council at 225 Reimer Avenue, Steinbach, MB  R5G 2J1.  Requests should include the exact proposed location for the sign and the reasons for the request.  Requests will be reviewed by City Council and you will be advised of the decision as soon as it is available.
