At approximately 2:15pm on Tuesday, May 1, a City of Steinbach Waterworks employee sustained injury while working in an excavated hole. The employee was working as part of a crew replacing an obsolete section of water main in the distribution system, work regularly completed by Waterworks staff.
Emergency personnel were contacted and ultimately STARS Air Ambulance transported the employee to a Winnipeg hospital for treatment.
The city is happy to report that the employee is recovering in hospital. Specific injury details will not be released.
The city has contacted Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health and is working with them to review the incident and safety procedures.
