Approximately 60 people attended the open house held at City Hall last night. The city is making revisions to its Official Community Plan and Zoning By-Law as a result of the annexation that came into effect January 1, 2018. The open house was held to ensure that the city's plans reflect the needs of the community, particularly within those lands that were annexed. The policies include guidelines for land use, building, and development of properties in the city.
"We had a lot of new residents express their appreciation for the opportunity to discuss what it means for them to be part of Steinbach now and in the future," said Lacey Gaudet, City Planner, "They were interested in understanding how joining the city affects how they currently use their property and how the proposed changes might have an impact."
Information boards were on display and residents were able to provide verbal feedback as well as written comments. Their input will be part of the final draft of plans that will be reviewed by the province as the next step. A public hearing is then expected to take place later this year as part of the official adoption process by Council.
Residents that were unable to attend the open house are encouraged to review the open house information (below) and contact the city at 204-326-9877 if they have questions.
