Summer in the City Festival
2nd Summer in the City Festival on June 18-19, 2010!
The Friday rain at Summer in the City 2010 didn’t dampen the spirits of the volunteers, many of the street vendors and performers. The first day of the festival provided some of this year’s fondest memories. In cooperation with the Steinbach Fire Fighters, Dean Brody headlined Friday with an intimate acoustic version of his show which was hosted in the Fire Hall due to weather. Saturday started with a crowd of cheering parents at Steinbach’s first and largest street hockey tournament hosted by Steinbach Minor Hockey. Summer in the City 2010 included the Wonder Shows Midway and some brand new rides. The Biovail main stage was packed with entertainment that brought out large crowds throughout the day. This year the street hosted a record number of food and arts vendors and ended with a record crowd attending the Loverboy concert complete with fireworks.
Festival Chair Keith Unger reported that attendance Saturday exceeded last year’s attendance greatly. The committee focused on providing something for everyone and the energy on the street was amazing! It was great to see so many different families enjoying the City’s arts, culture, and entertainment. The festival has seen an increase in the numbers of volunteer in 2010. The volunteer help throughout the festival including setup and take down was outstanding. Thank you to all the volunteers! The committee is also grateful for the private support from sponsors. Lastly, each of the members of this year’s committee gave 110% and it showed. Thank you to everyone who helped make this year's Festival a huge success!
