Garage Sales & Block Parties

Everyone loves a bargain! Garage sale enthusiasts in Steinbach and surrounding communities can hardly wait for this season to start and for the community garage sales to begin! Please review the following information before hosting your own garage sale. Permits are not required for garage and craft sales in residential areas as long as the following requirements are met:
- No more than two (2) sales events are allowed on the premises in any calendar year.
- The duration of a sales event must not exceed four (4) consecutive days.
- Sales events must only occur during daylight hours.
- Signs advertising the sale must be placed no sooner than one day before the sale and must be removed by the end of the sale.
- Signs may be placed on private property only with permission of the property owner.
- Signs are not allowed on any public street median, public utility pole, or traffic control device pole for reasons of public and traffic safety.
Remember - you are not exempt from parking laws when attending garage sales in Steinbach. Vehicles must be parked on the correct side of the street, and in the same direction as traffic. Illegal and inappropriate parking can result in dangerous conditions for emergency vehicles, pedestrians, and through-traffic. Illegally parked vehicles will be ticketed by the City of Steinbach.

Parties are always a highlight during the summer months. To help facilitate the fun safely, the City of Steinbach allows block parties on selected neighborhood residential streets such as cul-de-sacs or non-through streets.
The person organizing the event must submit an application to the City one week in advance of the party date. The applicant is required to give their name, telephone number, address, desired location, date, and time of the proposed block party. If the location is approved, the resident will be furnished with sufficient approved traffic control barricades to restrict access at each street closure location. There are no application fees for block parties.
