As part of Invasive Species Awareness Week (April 18-25) some ash trees on Steinbach's Main Street and in major parks will receive green bands to raise awareness about Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) insects. This invasive species puts all ash trees at risk. About 30 percent of the trees at LA Barkman Park are ash species. There are also many ash trees on Steinbach's Main Street and in various other city parks.

What is the best way to prevent the spread of invasive species?

Don't move firewood! Many invasive species can travel hidden under the bark of firewood. When the firewood is moved between locations, so are the insects. This summer, choose to purchase firewood as close to your camping destination as possible.
