City Of Steinbach’s Update #3 on the April 21 Water Distribution System Discolouration
The City of Steinbach continues to flush the water distribution system to remove the discoloured water and bring it back to normal clarity. Based on testing results, it is expected that water from the distribution system will be clear by approximately 10pm.
The Office of Drinking Water and Manitoba Health Seniors and Active Living advise not to drink discoloured water or use it for purposes such as preparing food, beverages or infant formula.
If you are still experiencing water discolouration at your property, please run the cold water tap for 10 to 15 minutes to help improve water clarity. If the discolouration still persists, please contact the Waterworks department as listed below.
If water is clear, it can once again be used normally.
The City will provide further updates on the situation and when the situation has been resolved through the City’s website at www.steinbach.ca, through the City’s social media channels on Facebook, Instagram and X, and to local media outlets.
The next update from the City will be posted today, Tuesday, April 21st, at approximately 10:00 PM, or earlier if the situation is resolved.
Please direct further questions to the City of Steinbach Waterworks Department by filling out the form on our website (www.steinbach.ca/directory) or by email to mheppner@steinbach.ca. Responses may be delayed as the Waterworks team works on the affected distribution system.
The City of Steinbach Waterworks Department was made aware that at approximately 8:30 AM on Tuesday, April 21st, 2026, a private contractor working in a private development damaged the large watermain, causing extremely high flow of water and affecting the water colour in the city-wide distribution system.
