There are currently two job opportunities with the City of Steinbach. 

Lead Hand
Posting #2018-05

The City of Steinbach has an opening for a full-time Lead Hand position in the Public Works Department.

Reporting to the Department Head, the Lead Hand will perform supervisory work as well as operate a variety of contractor’s equipment and trucks utilized in construction, maintenance and repair activities. They will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks while carrying out maintenance and operations of the Public Works Department including streets, traffic control, streetlights, airport and other Public Works projects and programs.

The Lead Hand will supervise and assist in the operation of blading roads, dust control, asphalt patching, hauling materials, crack sealing, ditching, culvert maintenance, sign maintenance and installations, line painting, storm drain maintenance, traffic inspections, street sweeping, curb and sidewalk repairs, and snow removal.

Required qualifications:

  •  Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  •  Minimum four years’ supervisory experience
  •  Minimum four years’ experience involving the use of medium and heavy equipment, two of which must have been related to utility or street systems
  •  Valid Class 3 drivers with air brake endorsement
  •  Mechanically inclined
  •  Required to work some weekends and evenings in cases of emergencies.
  •  Consideration will be given to those who reside within 10 miles and/or willing to relocate

In accordance with the City of Steinbach/CUPE Local 5260 Collective Agreement the starting salary for this position is $25.01 per hour, increasing to $26.01 per hour upon satisfactory completion of the 3 month probation period. The City offers a 40-hour work week with an excellent and comprehensive benefits package. A criminal record check and drivers abstract will be required as a condition of employment.

Summer Labourer
Posting #2018-04

The City of Steinbach’s Parks & Recreation Department is looking for friendly, energetic individuals to fill numerous summer job positions.

Areas of opportunity include:

  • Parks & cemetery department, sport field maintenance including mowing and trimming.
  • Parks department including mowing with tractor and pull behind mower.
  • Beautification department including planting, weeding, and watering.

Most of the positions are considered full-time from May to August, with some extending into the fall. Some weekend shifts are required. First Aid/CPR will be considered an asset.
