Obtain a Permit on Cloudpermit

The City of Steinbach is pleased to offer an online permitting system called Cloudpermit to apply for and track your building permits and sign permits. Here are some of the features of the permitting system:

  • Apply for and see the status of your permit application anywhere, at any time
  • You can start an application and finish it later
  • Receive email updates on the status of your permit application
  • A record of permit documents will be retained under your online profile for future reference.

The following by-laws and resources provide information on the building and zoning regulations required for legal construction in Steinbach. 

Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of information contained in these publications.  However, in the event of a discrepancy between the brochures below and the governing City of Steinbach by-law, the by-law will take precedence.

This by-law provides information regarding the building construction process including permits and guidelines within the City of Steinbach.

Building By-Law

This Zoning By-Law provides information and detailed maps of the City's land use zones.  It specifies the permitted uses (e.g. commercial or residential and the required building standards (e.g. size and location) in each zone. 

Zoning

The Dwelling Safety Standards By-Law addresses the minimum obligations property owners must provide within their residential dwellings.

A secondary suite is an accessory dwelling unit added to or created within a single family residence that can be rented and provides basic requirements for living, sleeping, cooking, and sanitation. All secondary suites must conform to the Manitoba Building Code as well as City by-laws.

Permit Payments & Fees

Paying by e-Transfer

The City is pleased to offer e-transfer as a payment method for Building Permits.* 

All e-Transfers must be directed to payments@steinbach.ca and include contact information of the sender (email or telephone number) and the building permit number in the messages field.

Anyone wishing to use the e-transfer payment option is responsible for ensuring that their bank is compatible with auto-deposit. If auto-deposit is not available, an alternate method of payment is required.

*Please note that e-Transfer payments are not available for other City services.

If you have already set up the City of Steinbach as an e-Transfer contact previously, skip steps 5-7.

  1. Log in to your online banking website on a PC or through the mobile banking application.
  2. Select "e-Transfer".
  3. Select “Send Money”.
  4. Enter the amount you wish to pay, and select the bank account you wish to have the funds taken from.
  5. Select “New Contact” and enter “City of Steinbach” as the contact name.
  6. Select “Email Address” and enter payments@steinbach.ca for the new City of Steinbach contact.
  7. Select “Save” and authenticate your request to create a contact if you’ve set your banking system up to do so.
  8. Important: Enter your building permit number and contact information (email or phone number) in the messages field so that your payment can be applied correctly and City employees are able to contact you if necessary.
  9. Review and confirm the details of the e-transfer
  10. Select “Send”.
