Household Hazardous Waste
Storing hazardous items in your home can be a fire hazard and dangerous to your family. It is also unlawful to dispose of hazardous items at the Steinbach Landfill with regular household garbage.
Household Hazardous Waste Depot
As an alternative, the City of Steinbach has a permanent Household Hazardous Waste Depot at the Landfill that allows residents to drop off residential quantities of hazardous waste year-round.
Items collected at the Household Hazardous Waste Depot include:
- Disinfectants, bleach, ammonia, abrasive powders, mildew & rust removers
- Kerosene, lighter fluid
- Paint, spray paint, lacquers, solvents, turpentine, epoxies, acrylics, wood preservatives, furniture polish / wax
- Hair dyes, hair sprays, medicine, polish remover
- Fluorescent and CFL bulbs
- Household cleaners: window, toilet, oven, drain, all-purpose, rug, upholstery, septic tank
- Mothballs, rodent poison, ant & wasp spray, insecticides, fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides
- Automotive: car batteries, waxes, polishes, antifreeze, gasoline, brake & transmission fluids
Proper Battery Disposal
The City asks that you do not throw out batteries with your regular garbage. The Solid Waste Department encourages the public to bring household batteries for safe drop off at the Landfill or City Hall.
A disposal box is available at the Landfill scale building for several varieties of batteries, including alkaline, rechargeable, cell phone (as well as the phone itself), and power tool batteries.
Automotive batteries are collected separately at the Landfill.
Once collected, batteries are then returned to the manufacturer for proper disposal and recycling.
